The Cambridge Women’s debate tournament was held on 23rd November in Cambridge, UK. The women debated:

Round 1: This House Would legalise the buying and selling of sexual services
Round 2: This House Believes That football fans should boycott the 2022 world cup in Qatar
Round 3: This House Believes that the US and Iran should ally to fight ISIS
Round 4: This House Would aggresively financially incentivise the enrollment of female students in areas with low female enrollment
ESL Final: This House Believes That developed countries should grant an amnesty to illegil immigrants
Open Semi: This House Believes that individuals have a right to a basic income regardless of capacity or willingness to work
Open Final: This House Would allow individuals to sue religious organisations for making decisions that harm them

Yorkshire Novice Cup

The Yorkshire Novice Cup was held on 23 November 2014, in Hull, UK

Round 1: This House would replace all sin taxes with an increase in income tax Info slide: Sin taes are taxes above VAT, levied on goods considered to be unhealthy such as alcohol and tobacco
Round 2: This House believes that the EU should issue a directive to all its member states to legalise gay marriage. Info slide: An EU Directive is a non-binding requirement passed to EU member states to enforce a policy within a certain time frame. Not fulfilling this requirement will lead to heavy financial penalties.
Round 3: This House would abolish all non-comprehensive schools and require children to attend their geographically closest school.
Round 4: This House believes that sexually assertive female pop stars identifying as feminists is harmful for feminism.
Final: This House believes that Western nations should not attend sporting events in countries with bad human rights records

Moscow Open 2014

Moscow Open 2014 was organised on the weekend 28th till 30th November 2014. Here are the motions:

Round 1: This house believes that laws about abortion should be decided in women-only referenda
Round 2: This house prefers a world in which people do not believe in the existence of God or a divine being
Round 3: This house believes that Putin’s interventionist role in global geopolitics is contrary to the interests of the Russian people
Round 4: This House Supports the use of tiger parenting techniques
Round 5: This house believes that celebrities should not act as spokespeople for humanitarian issues
SEMI: This house would if it was technologically possible erase memory of the idea and events caused by Nazism
FINAL: This house believes that a state’s primary obligation is towards its own citizens

Westminster Open 2014

This debate tournament was held between December 6th and 7th 2014. If you look through the motions that were debated, you can see there are a couple of complicated motions, some of them needed an info slide, but most of them were something new and interesting. Here are the motions:

Round 1: This house would base monetary criminal fines primarily on the income of the perpetrator rather than the severity of the crime
Round 2: This house believes that the EU should abandon its commitment to the principle of open borders between member states.

Round 3: This house believes that feminists should support the HeForShe movement.
Round 4 info slide: The Association of South East Asian Nations (also known as ASEAN) consists of the following countries; Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Its aim is to accelerate economic growth, social progress and peace and stability within the region. Motion: This house believes it is in ASEAN’s long term best interests to seek closer ties with China rather than the U.S.A.
Round 5 info slide: John Lennon freely admitted in multiple interviews to committing acts of domestic abuse. Jimmy Page has admitted on multiple occasions that he was in a relationship with a 14 year old girl. Motion: This house believes that the music press should aggressively negatively depict the work of artists, such as John Lennon and Jimmy Page who commit morally reprehensible acts.
Novice Final info slide: To proselytise is to induce someone to convert to one’s own religious faith. Novice Final Motion: This house would ban religious charities from proselytising in the developing world.
Semi-Final: This house supports the decision of pop stars such as Lily Allen and Adele to not take part in Band Aid
Final: This house would grant an amnesty to those who commit crimes during US race riots so long as they meet the following criteria: 1. They were motivated by a desire to fight social injustice 2. If property is targeted, it belongs to the aparatus of the state (for example, police cares and government buildings

Jerusalem Open 2014

The debate topics from the tournament Jerusalem Open in 2014.

Round 1: This house believes that foreign Western governments should stop attempting to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Round 2: This house believes that First Ladies/Gentlemen should not publicly advocate for policies or political positions during their partner’s term in office
Round 3: This house believes that schools should avoid instilling a sense of patriotism
Round 4: Info Slide: Jury nullification occurs in a trial when a jury acquits a defendant, even though the members of the jury believe the defendant to be guilty of the charges. This may occur when members of the jury disagree with the law the defendant has been charged with breaking, or believe that the law should not be applied in that particular case.  A jury can similarly convict a defendant on the ground of disagreement with existing law, even if no law is broken. Motion: This house would allow jury nullification
Semi-Finals: This house would charge George W. Bush with war crimes for the CIA’s actions in his terms
Finals: This house belives that policy pertaining to religion in the public sphere in Israel should be set on a local level

Ljubljana IV 2014

Round 1: This house believes that countries with booming populations should allocate every adult a single, tradable permit to have a child.
Round 2. This house would launch a ground invasion to fight the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq
Round 3. This house believes that states should seek to prioritise reducing income inequality over GDP growth
Round 4. This house believes that states should pay reparations to minorities, who are citizens, that the state has previously oppressed
Round 5. This house believes that the EU member states should sanction any state that ignores ECJ rulings.
Finals: TH regrets the increased mechanization of manual labor 

USU Universities 2014, Purdue University

Round 1: This house supports doctors who refuse to take people as patients who are unvaccinated because of a religious or philosophical objection that they or their parents hold
Round 2: This house believes that the feminist movement should actively exclude socially conservative viewpoints
Round 3: This house believes that Palestine should prohibit the establishment and operation of Israeli companies within Palestinian territories
Round 4: This house would allow the public to remove Supreme Court justices by a popular referendum with a 60% supermajority
Round 5: This house would choose not to consume art created by people who have committed deeply immoral acts
Round 6: Excluding sexual offenses, THW make poverty a significant mitigating factor in criminal sentencing

Octofinals: This house would ban prenuptial agreements
Quarterfinals: This house believes that the assassination of political leaders is a legitimate tactic in war
Semifinals: This house supports developing countries violating the intellectual property rights of multinational corporations to benefit the public interest
Novice Finals (this wasn’t the exact wording, but you get the idea): For any crime that tribal courts have jurisdiction over tribal members, THW give tribal courts jurisdiction over non members.
Grand Finals: This house Regrets the continuation of NATO after the dissolution of the Soviet Union

2nd BFSU Challenge 2014

Round 1: This house would close all tuition centers and “after-school” cram schools
Round 2: This house believes that the state should regularly compel people to give blood
Round 3: This house would hold schools and teachers criminally liable in cases of bullying and sexual abuse among their students
Round 4: This house believes that sweatshops (ie. Foxconn) have done more harm than good.
Round 5: As feminists, This house regrets the rise of sexually assertive pop stars (eg. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna)
Round 6: Assuming full confidentiality from all other parties, This house believes that the state should have access to each individual’s secrets. 

Quarter Finals: This house believes that China should unilaterally abandon the trade agreement which allows China and Taiwan to invest more freely in each other’s services markets. 

Semi Finals: As NATO, This house would take back Crimea. 

Finals: This house believes that “People Power” Protests undermine democracy more than promote it.

Round 1: THBT big sports events should be organized only in countries with highest standards of living.
Round 2: THBT radical means (eg posters with dead foetuses, Holocaust comparisons etc.) do more harm than good to pro-life movement.
Round 3: THBT Poland shouldn’t support any anti-Russian actions in former USRR countries.
Round 4: THBT Poland should prioritize economic growth over reducing social inequalities.

Semis: THBT nationwide media shouldn’t inform about crimes not committed by organized groups.

Final: THW introduce single member constituencies.

Round 3 – This house would with-hold the scientific discoveries that have the potential to be used as Biological weapons.
Round 4 – This house believes that it’s better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven.
Round 5 – This house believes that public servants should prioritize their conscience over their designated duty. Quarter Final – This house believes that the composition of the national sporting teams should reflect the economic and racial demographics of society.
Semi Final – This house would impose “gender imbalance” tax on Corporations.
Grand Final – This house believes that the WTO should ban nations from placing bans on the export of food.
