Uve Poom as DCA in Newcastles bid Print E-mail

Tuesday, 18 March 2008

Webmasters 5 cent's:

I'm very pleased, that Uve is going to be the DCA at the EUDC 2009 in Newcastle, if they win the bid. I know Uve for quite a while now, he has been a participant and a trainer at our IDAS, an organiser at the Tallin IV 2007 and is a part of the org com for the EUDC 2008 in Tallinn. I'm sure he will also do a great job as the DCA in Newcastle, of course, if they win the bid for that.

For those that do not know that, the elections for the next years EUDC host take place at the EUDC Council where every participating country sends a representative and then they vote for the host.

Greetings!

EUDC Newcastle'09 is very pleased to *officially* announce our DCA
appointment. Happily, Uve Poom has accepted our offer and is now the
newest member of our adjudication team.

Uve is a very successful speaker notably he is a Euros ESL winner. He
has held many senior adjudication positions in national and European
debating. He is a passionate advocate for the development of debating
in his home country of Estonia and the rest of Europe.

EUDC Newcastle'09 is delighted to welcome Uve. We think that he can
really bring something special to the bid. EUDC Newcastle'09 has a
vision of unity in European debating. Giving parity of esteem to both
ESL and IONA is a central theme in our bid. That's why we're going to
hold ESL and Main Finals in the same venue. Uve really adds to the
depth and breadth of our team - with what we think are some of the
best ESL and EFL talent.

Our Adjudication team is Headed by CA Sam Block and is assisted by
DCAs Alex Ward, Leela Koenig, James Dray and, of course, Uve Poom.

We're still looking to add to our Named Judges list. If you think you
want to support EUDC Newcastle'09 and be a part of our senior judging
team, please do get in touch! convenor[at]

Our website continues to develop, please do keep checking back at

Newcastle bid EUDC 2009 Print E-mail

Thursday, 06 March 2008
Hi there!

Since the cat is already out of the bag (with our simultaneous
announcements at the LSE and Belgrade open competitions) I thought it
was time to post.

I'm very pleased to announce that Newcastle is now officially bidding
for 2009 Euros. The bid is formally known as "EUDC Newcastle'09
@NewcastleGateshead

" but Newcastle'09 will do in normal parlance :-)
Our website is to follow shortly, but for now if you want any
questions answered please do contact me, Russell Haswell, at
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We've attracted a strong team so far Oskar Avery and I are the
Co-Convenors. Our CA is Sam Block, ably assisted by Alex Ward, Leela
Koenig and James Dray.

We've so far very kindly received the support of many organisations
which include:

NewcastleGateshead Partnership (including Newcastle City Council &
Gateshead Metropolitan Borough)
Newcastle University
Newcastle Union Society
Newcastle University Debating Society

Proposed dates are July 31st-August 7th.

Our final venue (for *both* Main and ESL) is The Sage Gateshead,
Europe's newest and finest opera house and acoustically the best venue
in Europe (I'm told).

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more announcements coming soon
about the details of the bid, and how you can get involved.

Yours,
Russell A. Haswell
