|
|
|
Monday, 05 May 2008 |
Webmaster: Well getting to this tournament is not as easy as for the most others, because you need to be invited, and to be invited your institution needs to be in the top 30 list. Well, we will wait a bit to get there, but it is still a very interesting tournamnt (and if I remember right, last year at the EUDC they told us that if there are any spaces left, everyone can apply.)
I would rather wait for this info to be first published
via the official website, but there were many eager souls dying to
know. Hence, with all my pleasure, the essentials:
Title of event: CIMB Group World Universities Peace Invitational Debate (CIMB WUPID) 2008
Dates: 13 - 18 December 2008
Organizer: H&G Strategic Communications Sdn Bhd
Official hotel: Impiana KLCC Hotel and Spa, Kuala Lumpur
Host university: Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) - To be confirmed
Team cap: 60 teams
Institution cap: 2 teams (n-1 rule applied)
Adjudication core: Dr. Omar Salahuddin (CA), Fiona Prowse (DCA), Neill Harvey Smith (DCA), plus 2 others that will be announced soon.
Tab director: Colm Flynn
Prize money: Champion - MYR15, 000-00, First runner-up - MYR10, 000-00, Second runner-up - MYR7, 000-00 and Third runner-up - MYR3, 000-00
Registration info:
The registration for invited institutions only (see below for the list)
is from the first of August to the first of October. Please be notified
that there is no registration fee for the top 30 - just confirm your
participation and turn up at the hotel. If the cap is not fulfilled by
then, the registration will be opened to other interested institutions
- first come first serve basis. And registration closes on the first of
December 2008. Important note: Institutions that are not within the top 30 list will need to pay a ridiculous cheap amount of MYR500 per person.
Once
the website is running and the registration kit is ready to be
downloaded, please fill in ALL the required particulars as there will
be no registration desk at the hotel. Important note: There will be no travel services from the airport to the official hotel.
Upon
arrival to the official hotel, just check-in, relax and turn up for the
opening ceremony which will be held at night. In your respective rooms,
you will happily find your goodie bags containing the survival kit for
CIMB WUPID 2008. The survival kit will also be emailed to your
respective contingent leader.
If you happen to arrive before registration day (13 Dec) or specifically after the opening ceremony, please inform me via

Debate summer camp in Serbia invitation |
|
|
|
Wednesday, 23 April 2008 |
|
This invitation is for a new debate academy, organised by people that know how to organise debate events, I know, I have been to Belgrade a couple of times now, and they have always made great effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
They have great trainers, and great ideas, for more info please write to

.
This summer we are going to organise international summer debate camp. We are having camp as a tradition, but this year is the first time that is going to be a little bigger. Camp will take place on Divcibare, mountain in Serbia, 19 - 26th of July.
Participants can apply in different groups (beginners, intermediate, advanced). Participation will be around 80 Euros, per debater, for seven days, accommodation and meals of course.
They have invited a couple of great trainers, and they are looking for more, but here is a first list:
Steve Llano, David Register, Paul Bingham i Darryl Stein, Jens Fischer and probably Isabelle Loewe.
For the participation fee of around 80€ this is a great deal, you get all the meals and accomodation, and all the meals in Serbia probably means as much meat as you can eat.

The Erasmus Debating Society is more than proud to announce the
twentieth Dutch Anglosaxon Parliamentary Debating Institute, more well
known as the DAPDI! This year's DAPDI will be held the 25th 'til the
29th of August. Basically, it's the best start of the new debating
season you could possibly have!
Why should you come all the way to Rotterdam to the DAPDI?
- Three days of excellent trainings given by the Oxford tutors
- following that, a 2 day tournament to test everything you've learned
- and, of course, socials, drinks and parties every single day - because a debater doesn't survive on debating alone
What are the costs for all this?
- 80 euro for 5 days debating, breakfasts, lunches and dinners!
We
are currently trying to arrange accommodation where all debaters can
stay together. This will cost an approximate 30 euro extra. If you
prefer a certain hostel or hotel, we will be more than happy to arrange
that for you. This may lead to some extra costs. Of course, we can also
offer you a free crash at an EDS member. It's your choice.
Want
to register, or more information? Please send an e-mail to

with your name, institution,
country and we will help you further. If you need a visa please let us
know, so we can help you!
I hope to see you all in Rotterdam at the DAPDI for a week of great debating and great partying!

Amsterdam closes soon |

Dear Debaters!
The second Amsterdam Open will take place in less than two weeks on the
25th and 26th of April. It promises to be another great tournament,
with close to sixty teams now registered. And you can be one of them,
if you register before Saturday the 19th of April!
We haven't been able to organise a heat wave, like last year, but the
weather will be better than it has been for weeks. We have been able to
organise great motions, movies and a wonderful weekend in the beautiful
city of Amsterdam. We offer an excellent opportunity to get a taste of
the nightlife, with a pub, club, whiskey or gay tour on Friday, and to
get a view of the city, with walking and cycling tours on Sunday the
27th.
So if you need a break from your studies, exams, work or anything else
in your lives, register at www.ao2008.nl and join us in Amsterdam!
Kind regards,
Anne Valkering
