Stay up to date with Debate tournaments

One of the most important parts of my debate website for me is the Tournament invitations, at least for me.
I’m trying to post all the debate tournament invitations, announcements etc. that I come to. I regularly check the EUDC, WUDC, debate-I and other debate mailing lists, different debate blogs like Tuna’s, Flynn’s and other, I check Facebook invitations and I also regularly get invitations to my private email address.
I post all of them here, and try to add interesting details from what I know about the tournaments.
You should check this aggregate regularly, and to make it easier for you, I provide a RSS feed that you can subscribe to. Paste this Debate tournaments RSS link into your favorite RSS reader (like goggle reader) and you will be up to date.
Of course you are invited to post me your debate tournaments, so that I can post them, use the contact form and I will post it on my website, so that you will get to as many people as possible.

Leaving for EUDC Tallinn 2008

Well, this is it, I’m almost packed, and in a couple of hours I’ll be driving up to Tallinn. Its somewhere around 2000 km, and it will be a great trip, I hope.
As you can see, my website changed a bit, because of the blog on the first page. As I mentioned before, I will blog via email on my phone, and this is sadly not possible yet on this blog, so I use blogger.com to blog and show this blog on my website.
I will try to blog as often as possible, you will get the motion at least after each round and the breaks for all the breaking rounds.
Come to my site, www.debate-motions.info and read all the news, and if you do not have any teams from your Institution or country, I always need cheerleaders, so cheer for me and my debatie.
I will blog more on the EUDC when I come back, in 10 days.

Promote your debate webpage

My webpage www.debate-motions.info has a special weblinks section, where I try to post as many relevant debate links as possible.

The links are seperated into three categories “general debate”, “debate institutions/debate clubs” and “debate tournaments”.

I add the links when I stumble over a debate webpage, so that the list is slowly growing.

If you would like to add your debate webpage or the webpage of your debate club, just post a comment and I will add the adress to the list.

New debate forum

This is an announcement post.

While I searched and surfed and have seen probably all the debate related websites, I’ve never seen a forum related to debate, that would be open for issuses about University debate all around the world.

So while I do this debate website for myself and for the whole debate community out there (and yes, only for you), I believe we need to fill this gap.

Because I know that debate needs to be about open communication, I believe that we can allow a lot on this forum, so I will try not to moderate it a lot, and now you are all invited to come and see it.

Here is the link to it, you are welcome, register and give your feedback. Would you like to see other categories? No problem…

Promote your debate tournament or other debate event

Promoting University debate events is a hard job because you need to reach people in countries from all around the world, and these people have different ways to find out about debate tournaments.

There are three major ways how to promote your debate tournament, and I’ll write about the forth one.

The most used is the EUDC debate mailing list. It is not used any more for promotion of the Euros but also for promoting of other tournaments all around Europe.

Probably the best way to promote your debate tournament is to use all the people that you know. The more people you know, more people they know and if you use the mouth-to-mouth (advertising) tehnique, you will get the info to the people that need it.

Facebook is the new way to promote debate tournaments, because almost everyone that I know and is involved in debate has a FB account, so you just need to post about it on your facebook acount, or make a group about your tournament and people will know about it.

The fourth and new way that is here is to use this website to promote your tournament. There is a new category called “Your debate info”. If you sign up to the page and then post in the category, the info will show up in the category, and it will show up in the latest articles list, down left. This way all the users that come to this website will read about the info that you post. For now everyone can sign up and everyone can write.

If you have any problems, please contact me, and I will help you with all the knowledge that I have.

There are aprox. 100 people on this website everyday, and they come here to read about tournaments, so this is the way you should use. Other webmasters of other debate websites come here to get their info, that means if you post here, your info can and probably will be posted on other websites. I will help you with Digging, stubmling, facebooking etc, meaning publishing your information, so that it gets the exposure that you would like.

Its free, its easy, what else do you need?

New categories and feeds - EUDC 2008 and 2009

Adding information to this website daily is a lot of fun and I love it to see how this website grows and how the visitor count grows also.

Because I would like to have all the information as organized as possible I’ve established two new categories, that are going to bring you all the info about the EUDC 2008 in Tallinn and for the EUDC 2009 wherever is it going to be.

I advise you to subscribe to the RSS feeds for both competitions so that you do not miss any info.

The same is going to happen with WUDC so do come back!

Best site on the internet - this one

And I’m not bragging about it, but Google has just decided, that this page is the best one to get debate motions from. That means, that what I’m doing here is good, and I will continue to do it.

Google has placed me on the first place for the keyword debate motions, even over idebate.org and Flynn’s site.

I’m glad about it, because this was one of the goals for this website.

Of course the main goal still remains, satisfying you, my visitors.

So give me feedback, what do you want, and we will try to fill in the gaps

Acknowledgments

I just had a discussion about this webpage, on how much of the material on this webpage is unique, and what is copied from other webpages.

And it is true, a lot of things have been taken from other webpages, I have noted some of the links, and maybe not all of them are next to the text, because a lot of information is combined from different webpages.

But what I need to say is, there are two webpages, that I regulary use and check (or their blogs) to get information about what is going on out there.

And I need to say thanks to those pages, again with a link, beucause this is the web way to say it.

So here they are,

http://flynn.debating.net/ and

http://debate.uvm.edu.

Thanks both of you, I have spoken to Tuna, webmaster of the second webpage and we both use information one from another, and have no problem with that.

Fair is fair, go and check out these great websites, but don’t forget to get back here, or just RSS me :D

New stuff on the website

I have added the motions from the “Amsterdam 2007″ tournament. I will also use them for prep for the Amsterdam 2008 that I will attend.

RSS syndication killed the server

Some of you might have noticed, a week ago the server was down. Well, believe or not, I have killed the whole server, by just installing one simple script on this webpage. And it is running on Joomla, and the script should have been tested. SO not only my webpage, but all the pages, that are located on this server were down.

Luckily the guy, who is providing me the space, didn’t kill me, but he just jelled at me via E-mail. So, sorry guys, Im not sure if I will try to install all the RSS-ing again. Or not that soon again. Please come back and read all the good stuff on this webpage.
