The usage of the internet for the greater good of the international debate has not gone a long way. Except for a few mailinglists and blogs, a couple of websites and a lot of recordings of debates, that are now accessible on the internet, I haven’t really seen a big use of the Internet for debates.
Well, yes there have been a couple of different things, I myself have tried and failed before, but there is an idea that I would like to give out to the debate world and see your thoughts on it.
There are milions of people using the Virtual world named Second world. A place where anyone can come in, and walk around a 3D world, talk, mingle and even make money.
Having a debate in Second life would be an event, that could be staged by people from all around the world, and AFAIK 2 Life, we could do it properly, with people standing and speaking, standing up for POI’s, judges and audience.
How do you feel about it? Could it work?
My lil laptop that I use to write this is just not good enough to run 2. Life, but I will check it on my home PC, just to see how the thing could be done.
And a look into the future, we make/buy a debate island in 2nd Life and stage weekly debates in a proper debate chamber…
