To all IDAS participants!

IDAS is starting in a couple of days and I hope you are getting your drinks together for the International night (aka country presentation, aka free drinks the hell best party on IDAS).
As you probably know (or don’t care), I won’t be able to attend IDAS during the week, that also means, I won’t have any idea what is going on there.
So, I would like to get as many info as possible, and to make it available to the whole worlds to see, I would love to post it here (www.debate-motions.info).
So, I would like to ask you, if you are going to blog, twitter, email, sms, mms, flicker, facebook, myspace or just scream (do it loud please, I’m 100km away) or just anything else, please let me know.
Drop me a facebook message (you can find a link to my account on this page), email me to peter@remax.si or whatever, get in touch with me, send me the link, or just send me the text, and I will post it. And more, I will read it and feel good :D
Yes, I’m an IDAS junky… True, but can’t help it.
Enjoy the travel and enjoy the academy… See you at arrivals or at the tournament.

Twitter is the way to go!

Well, finally, I’ve set up a Twitter account….
This means, that I will be updating my debate life on Twitter and I’ve connected it with this site, so you can always see my last Twitter status on my page.
I will be posting debate motions and results from tournaments that I attend, and things that happen in my other debate life… I will try not to post to many personal, not debate related things on this Twitter account, so you do not have to worry, to get all my drunk twitt’s, if you follow me.
Check out my Twitter page on … (sorry, Twitter is again down, so I can’t post a link.
But my Twitter name is debatemotions so you can find me there, or just follow the link from my website www.debate-motions.info

Second life Debate is going to happen!

Well, its not who you are, it’s who you know…
In a previous blog I started thinking about how great it would be if we stage a proper debate in Second life. Well, it is moving forward. I had a great chat in SL with Steve Llano, who told me that his University has a venue in SL (who would have thought) and that we can use that. We went there, and it looks AMAZING, and it looks set for a debate, so we will use it. I made a couple of pictures, but I left them on my home computer, so you will have to wait untill Sunday and I will post them here, so that you can see it.
We will stage a BP debate so we need 8 people for the debate. If you would like to participate in the world and SecondLife first ever BP debate, please contact me on peter@remax.si or just leave a comment to this post with your email at my website www.debate-motions.info and I will contact you.
You do not need to have any experience in SL, you need a good computer and a headset (microphone and speakers/headphones). We can show you the basics in SL, (you will have to make a SL account) and we will have a SL meeting or two before the debate.
We would like to have as many countries as possible, so we invite debaters from all over the world to join in.
The debate will take place after the WUDC, that means in January 2010 and we will try to set it so that a lot of people won’t have to stay up too late (something like 5-6pm GMT+1).
So, email me, comment, or RSS to this blog if you would like to receive further updates!

International debate tournament in Ljutomer 2008

I’m sitting in the TAB room in Ljutomer, a traditional place for the High School international debate tournament, this year also called the International debate weekend.
41 teams, 130 participants and 6 rounds with semifinals and finals. The semifinals are just finishing and we will announce the finalists ASAP.
It is great to be at a tournament again, it has been a while since I was at a big tournament and I really felt great to be here and see all the people.
In the semifinals we have Canada, Ljutomer (Slovenija), Bežigrad (Slovenija) and and Druga Maribor (Slovenija), all great teams, I’ve seen all of the debate in the past (except Canada).
I will post on the winners and we have recorded a lot of debates that will be posted on youtube, so you can see them if you wish.
Some Slovenian University debaters are in Oxford, we have 3 teams there.

IDAS is almost here! YEY… This is how I will update you

Im really excited, its allready November, the month in the year, where I get to go to the best debate weekend ever. International debate academy is the thing to be in November… But sadly, I won’t be able to be there for the whole event. Real life came by, told me that there is no such thing as a free internet, so I had to get a proper job. That means no chance to take a week off.
I will be there for the tournament and to welcome all of you that are comming on the first day. I look forward to see old friends that are comming back for years and to make new friends. And to see all the trainers again. (btw, I still have the SAID badge I got two years ago… I like it…)
What I wanted to tell you is that I will be blogging live from the tournament, with so much new gadgets I got in the last month, Ill be damned if I won’t be able to go online to post the results and motions round by round. (I hope).
Some pictures will come also, my fancy new phone (sorry, I have to brag about my BlackBerry Bold :) )has a great camera (the one on my old phone died long ago) so I will show you things.
We will try to (and this is nothing official, I have no idea if it will work) stream the debates, this is a long due idea, but we never get to find a place for the debates that has good internet… This time we are at the Maribor Law faculty, I hope it will work.

BTW, I’ve added some tournament invitations, results etc on the www.debate-motions.info site, so check them out!
